The following are frequently asked questions about Hoyle Online.
Problem: I have just created a new account and have received my confirmation email with the new password; however, when I try to login to play at Hoyle Games I receive an error stating the information I have entered is not recognized.
Solution: Before you can login to a game at Hoyle Online with your new account for the first time, you must validate this account at http://hoylegames.sierra.com/reg/validate.jsp . Enter your screen name and password exactly as it is displayed in the confirmation email (Note: Passwords are case-sensitive). You can also use this option, which is the MY ACCOUNT link at play.hoylegames.com , to change other information such as your current email address and screen name.
Problem: I have created an account at Hoyle Online; however, I have not received a confirmation message in my e-mail's inbox.
Solution: If you did not receive a confirmation email that includes your new password, this error may be caused by having a SPAM control option enabled on your email service. You may want to disable or adjust this option so that a message from hoylefeedback@igl.net can be properly received into your inbox.
Problem: When creating a screen name for Hoyle Online I am not able to enter symbols or ASCII code.
Solution: Only alphanumeric characters, dashes (-), and underscores ( _ ) can be entered for creating a valid screen name.
Problem: I receive an error message regarding ActiveX controls when I attempt to login at Hoyle Online.
Solution: On top menu of the web browser, select TOOLS --> INTERNET OPTIONS.
Click on the SECURITY tab.
Click Custom Level.
Change the following settings under "ActiveX controls and plug-ins" to ENABLED:
- Download Signed.
- Download Unsigned.
- Initialize and script Active X Controls not marked as Safe.
- Run Active X plug-ins.
- Script Active X controls marked SAFE.
Click on OK.
On the INTERNET OPTIONS menu, click APPLY and OK.
Then refresh the Hoyle Games web page.
Problem: I have a firewall or router installed with my computer and cannot connect or login to Hoyle Online.
Solution:
If you have a firewall installed, you may want to first disable it before accessing the Hoyle Online web site (If you are using Windows XP, check to make sure that the native firewall that is installed with this operating system is disabled.)
If you wish to keep the firewall enabled or have a router installed with your system, you may need to configure access for the following network ports:
TCP ports 15101,15200,15500,26901-26999,28901-28999
Please refer to your firewall or router documentation for specific instructions on how to configure these ports.
If you are using a modern version of Norton/Symantec Firewall, you should configure it to allow access for the "wonplay.exe" file.
Problem: Every time I go to http://play.hoylegames.com I am prompted to validate my account as either a "New User" or "Existing User" even though it is already activated.
Solution: This will occur if you have deleted your internet cookies, temp files, or have cleared your internet cache.
To access the Hoyle Online games menu from this screen, simply click on the Sierra logo in the upper left-hand corner of the page.
Problem: Miscellaneous errors with WONplay client (e.g. "Invalid file size...," etc.)
Solution: Do a complete uninstall of WONplay.
On the desktop, go to START\SETTINGS\CONTROL PANEL\ADD-REMOVE PROGRAMS.
Highlight WONplay in the list.
Click CHANGE/REMOVE and proceed with the uninstall process.
Once the uninstall process has completed, navigate in Windows to PROGRAM FILES\WON.
If the WONplay folder is still present in this directory, RIGHT click on it and select DELETE from the drop-down menu.
The WONplay client will automatically reinstall when you go to enter one of the rooms on the Hoyle Online web site.
